Thanks for coming to check out this feature. Before we start, we must cover the essentials.

Beta notice: please read

This beta is targeted at existing content creators, though of course everyone is free to give it a shot.
Minis created with TaleWeaver Lite from this beta will be compatible with the game, but will not support any of the new features until TaleSpire itself receives an update to enable them. However, unless any breaking issues are found, minis created and uploaded with this version will be fully compatible and won't need another update once the TaleSpire update releases.

Note that any .tsMod file opened and edited (and saved) with the Beta version of TaleWeaver Lite will be upgraded to a new version, making them incompatible with the old TaleWeaver, so keep copies of your original files!

Due to the size of changes in TaleWeaver Lite and the accompanying changes in TaleSpire itself, there might be bugs. Because of that we recommend testing the new tools and features with a handful of minis at most and not migrating all of your existing catalog of minis to the new version, in case a bug causes compatibility issues.

Reporting Bugs

This branch is all about the bugs, so we have set up a temporary bug reporting channel for reporting problems specific to this branch.

You can find it here: https://feedback.talespire.com/b/taleweaver-beta-bug-reports

Installing the Beta

Download the beta build of TaleWeaver Lite here: https://files.dicewillsuffice.net/TaleWeaverLite-Beta-2025-06-17.zip

The install procedure is identical to setting up TaleWeaver Lite from scratch apart from using the Beta download link, for a guide on this setup see here: https://talespire.com/taleweaverlite-guide
Both versions can be installed at the same time.

When using the TaleWeaver Lite beta do not use the built-in updater, as that will download the non-beta version.

Any customizations of the UI layout you may have done in your TaleWeaver Lite install will not carry over to the Beta.

Leaving the Beta

To leave the beta, simply open (or install) the existing TaleWeaver Lite project from the Unity Hub again. If you do not want to try the beta anymore just remove the project in Unity Hub and delete the project folder.

Expected Behavior

This beta includes:
  • Adding content flags to your minis
  • Uploading minis directly from within TaleWeaver to mod.io
  • Bulk updating already uploaded minis with new information

This beta does not include:
  • Adding tags to your minis
  • Mature content categories, so content continues to have to stay appropriate for all ages

Content Flags

To add content flags to your mini, select either "Yes" or "No" on each of the categories. "Yes" will add the corresponding flag to your model, "No" will add nothing.
All categories have to be answered.

Publishing

Once all required data is entered and all changes are saved, click on the publish button at the bottom of the creature editor panel to open the publisher.

While the publisher is open, the creature editor is disabled and cannot be interacted with.
Game Photo
The first time you open the publisher, it will prompt you to log in to mod.io. Once logged in, you'll see the Upload UI. After all required info is entered, the upload button will be clickable. Once pressed, TaleWeaver Lite will automatically upload your creature to mod.io.

Available Fields

  • Name: Automatically filled in with the mini's name, can be edited to have a different name online on mod.io versus downloaded in-game.
  • Summary, needs to be at least 10 characters long.
  • Description: Allows HTML formatting like <i>for italics</i> or <b>for bold</b>.
  • Homepage URL: For if you have some website to link to, like a personal portfolio page.
  • Upload publicly: If checked, your mini will be visible to everyone, if unchecked it will be hidden until you decide to make it public at a later time.
  • Use Photo as Logo: If checked uses the image selected with the Photo camera in the creature editor window as the main image for browsing, if unchecked a custom image can be selected.
  • Gallery Media: Up to 10 extra media files can be selected to upload alongside the logo image.
  • Version: The version of the mod you're uploading, usually for a first upload that would be something like "1.0" if you're using semantic versioning (or something similar).
  • Changelog: What changed compared to the previous version. Usually for a first upload this would be empty.

The publisher will also show you your selected content flags, to edit these, close the publisher and select the appropriate ones in the creature editor window.

Updating Existing Minis

TaleWeaver Lite will automatically keep track of minis you uploaded with it and instead of showing you the initial upload UI, will show you an update UI. However, minis uploaded outside of TaleWeaver Lite (including minis created and uploaded before TaleWeaver Lite received uploading capabilities), will not be detected. To update such a mini through the Publisher, you can enter the URL to your mini in the input field shown here, then press Load. If TaleWeaver Lite can find the mini under this URL, it will go into update mode and remember this for the future.

Note: When manually providing a URL, TaleWeaver will not check what has been uploaded to said URL before and will upload whatever mini you provide there instead. Make sure you upload to the right submission profile!
In case you do upload to the wrong profile by accident, the old file will still be there and you can download it by going to the version history on the mod.io website.

Updating a Mini

When updating an already uploaded mini, you can edit individual sections without affecting the others.

Basic info (name, summary, description, homepage and visibility status), Media (logo and extra gallery images) and Creature File can be edited individually.

The Update Media option replaces existing images with the selected ones. If no new images are selected it just deletes already uploaded ones.

The last section updates the creature file and content flags. You can enter a new version number and changelog here to be uploaded with the new creature data.

Publisher Templates

When you're uploading a lot of minis, there are a few fields you might want to always have the same or similar data, like a common description template, or a link to your personal website. You can set these in TaleSpire -> Publisher Settings -> Templates.

Bulk Updating

If you have many minis already uploaded that you may want to update all at once, we now also provide a bulk updater that is capable of editing most of a creature's data. To open it go to the "TaleSpire" section in the top menu, the click "Bulk Updater".

The bulk updater currently only supports updating minis.
Game Photo
The bulk updater has a search area for searching and sorting all your uploaded submissions. You can sort by name or date, both ascending and descending, select a page size and enter a name to filter for that name. To update the results, press "Find".

Below you can mass select the found submissions. In the results list you can also select individual entries for updating by pressing their checkbox on the left side.

Once a submission is selected you can edit its name, the attached homepage and whether it's public or hidden. You can also see the current version of the uploaded file and all content flags set for this mini.

To change the content flags, check "Replace Flags" in the toolbar, then select the appropriate content flags for your selection. You can also enter a new version and changelog info for the new creature file.

If you don't select "Replace Flags", the bulk updater will only update the mod.io metadata, and will not change anything about the .tsMod files itself.

If you do select "Replace Flags", the bulk updater will update any changes to the mod.io metadata, and download the currently active mod file, add/replace its content flags with the ones selected in the bulk updater, save and reupload the now edited .tsMod (and, if necessary, upgraded) file back to mod.io.

Note: If there are more results than your page size, you can use the page buttons below the toolbars to switch through result pages, but your selection will be cleared when switching between pages!
