Thanks for coming to check out this feature. Before we start, we must cover the essentials.

Critical warnings: please read

This branch contains unfinished features and bugs.

This branch is temporary and is backed by temporary servers. As such:

  • No boards or campaigns from the main branch are available.
  • Everything made on this branch will be destroyed at the end of the testing period.
  • Data may be cleared with very little notice if it aids in testing that brings the features closer to release.
  •  We will not be attempting to recover anything lost in the course of testing unless it helps us fix the provoking bugs.
  •  We do not guarantee any slabs will work from the main branch or vice versa. Often they will, but we likely will not be providing support for things damaged by moving slabs between branches.

If any of the above is an issue for you, please do not try this beta.

Reporting Bugs

This branch is all about the bugs, so we have set up a temporary bug reporting channel for reporting problems specific to this branch.

You can find it here: https://feedback.talespire.com/b/group-movement-beta-bug-reports

Switching to the Beta branch

To switch to the beta branch, you do the following:

  • Open Steam
  • Right-click on TaleSpire
  • Choose "Properties..."
  • Switch to the "BETAS" tab
  • Enter the password fa408308a09b4b9b926e2
  • Click the "Check Code" button
  • Click on the blue "Opt Into" bar that appears

If it doesn't automatically switch the active beta for you, you can pick `testing-group-movement` from the "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" drop-down.

Switching branch should enqueue a download for the Beta build of TaleSpire.

Leaving the Beta branch

To leave the beta branch, you do the following:

  • Open Steam
  • Right-click on TaleSpire
  • Choose "Properties..."
  • Switch to the "BETAS" tab
  • Choose "None" from the "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" drop-down.

This should enqueue a download for the standard build of TaleSpire.

Expected Behavior

This is just a small list of expected behavior. It does not cover everything but should give you a feel for what to test.
  • You should be able to left-click and drag to draw out a lasso.
  • If the pixels of any creature (or it's base) are covered by the lasso, those creatures should be selected.
  • You can select up to 50 creatures at once.

  • Once you have made a selection, you can hold the "selection modifier" (defaults to X) and draw another lasso which should allow you to add more creatures to the selected group.

  • By holding the "selection modifier" (defaults to X) you should be able to left-click on creatures to toggle whether they are a member of the selected group

  • If you have a group of creatures selected, you should be able to left-click and drag any member of the selection to move the entire group
  • When moving a group, you should be able to hold the "rotate object modifier" (which defaults to Alt) to rotate the group. The rotation should be centered on the creature you used to pick up the group.
  • When moving a group, the creatures should attempt to maintain the formation they were in when picked up.
  • If you have selected a group, you should be able to left-click away from the selected creatures to deselect the group.
  • If you have selected a group and then left-click a creature that is not a member of the group, that creature should become selected, and the group should be deselected
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on another creature and choose to attack them. All group members should then perform the attack.
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on a member of the group and choose to perform an emote. All group members should then perform the emote
  • When a group is selected you should be able to right-click on a group member and choose to toggle a status. All group members should then toggle to the same state.
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on a group member and choose to toggle the flying state. All group members should then apply the same flying state.
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on a group member and choose to toggle the hide state. All group members should then apply the same hide state.
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on a group member and choose a base color. All group members should then apply the same base color.
  • When a group is selected, you should be able to right-click on a group member and choose a scale for the active morphs. All group members should then apply the same scale to their active morphs.

Known issues

  • The lasso graphic is a placeholder asset while we work on improving the core feature itself. This will be revisited before this feature goes live.
  • Flying creatures sometimes start juddering
  • Rotating groups feels too finicky
  • The rendering done during picking is not as performant as it should be
  • It is not easy enough to see what is being selected at a distance
  • Moving a group of creatures using the keyboard is not yet supported
  • Not yet possible to rotate each creature of a group in place.
  • Snapping of creature positions is not yet supported in groups.

Thank you!
